Stephen Curry is not the next Reggie Miller. He is more likely to become the next inductee into the "NCAA Under-achiever's Hall of Fame". He will always be remembered as a great college player along with the Christian Laetners and Adam Morrisons of the world. The vital element that Curry will lack is opportunity. The opportunity to dominate the ball and log extended minutes in the game. The opportunity to intimidate and outclass opposing guards. Curry will however encounter "Bigger" stronger and more savvy competitors. Curry will have to adapt quickly to the rough play where he will be enthusiastically welcomed to the NBA with a fresh elbow sandwich. Stephen Curry will not be the beneficiary of favorable NCAA whistles like he has become accustomed to on the college ranks.
When you do a head to head comparison of Reggie Miller and Stephen Curry's styles of play it is easy to crown him the next Reggie Miller but this prophecy is unlikely to be fulfilled under detailed inspection. Miller played his entire career as a shooting guard and came off screens and rarely handled the basketball. Conversely Curry is a scoring Point Guard and not only scores the basketball but make plays for teammates. Miller was like a highly trained sniper that shot and hit without conscience. Curry does so many things well at the College level his game is already more diverse than Miller's after years in the NBA.
The numbers don't add up when you compare the heights of the two players. Curry is 6'3" with shoes on maybe. I'd have to see the tape in person to believe he's that tall. Reggie Miller is 6'8" with extremely long arms and always got his shots over NBA defenders. Curry may have trouble dealing with large guards like Chauncey Billups and Dwyane Wade in the league.
"All that glitters is not gold." Nowhere is this saying more true than in the NBA. I can name dozens of players that had so much potential and upside that did not succeed on the next level. We can still remember Adam Morrison and JJ Redick being unstoppable scorers in college. The thing about prolific scorers is that most don't know how to take a backseat not be the "MAN" The shock of not being the go to guy and Coach's favorite is sometimes too much for the young fragile ego of a college superstar. Curry will tragically fall into this pit of under-appreciation and self doubt of the NBA Lottery pick and will not be gone but certainly forgotten a la Joe Forte from North Carolina.
