There are a myriad of things to do in the world that do not involve one of the most famous pass times - watching television. Some of these require exercise, others do not. And some involve leaving your home for a time, while others you can enjoy from the shelter and safety you are used to. There are just so many options out there that it can be difficult to choose one and will yourself into getting started. Following is a list of some rewarding hobbies that I have found relaxing over the years.
1. Write: If you fancy yourself a writer, maybe it is time you spent some quality time honing your skills. If not, then try keeping a journal of what is going on in your life. Many who do not spend their time writing would be amazed at how cathartic it is to just write down some thoughts. The type of writing does not matter, and you never have to show your work to anyone if you do not want to. It is just nice to get your feelings out.
2. Read: Whether you prefer sitting at the table with a newspaper sprawled out in front of you, glancing through a magazine or curling up with a good book, reading provides a calming atmosphere and frees your mind from daily strife.
3. Create a masterpiece: Any artwork can be considered a masterpiece when viewed through another's eyes. Galleries are full of people's thoughts and feelings put down on paper. One of the main things I realized about art and will never forget is, "Art is not defined by the artist; it is loved by the viewer." This is why a parent's most prized painting is that created by their own child. So if you do not think you have any talent, who cares? You will not have to show anyone your personal masterpiece.
4. Play an instrument and/or listen to music: Music is soothing to the soul. If you have ever played an instrument, maybe it is time to start practicing again. If not, listening to music can help your mind release itself from the stress that life throws at you.
5. Go to a movie: If you cannot live without electronic media, then why not get together with friends and go to a movie? This will give you the opportunity to not only get to see something new and exciting, but you can also reminisce about it for hours socializing with your friends.
6. Play a game: Board games with family and friends can be a great way for people to reconnect in this technological world. If you simply cannot live without your television but want to give up the couch potato mentality, you could play video games. There has never been a wider selection
