Book reviews: All American Girl, by Meg Cabot

Created on: April 21, 2009

Ever wonder what will most likely happen to you if one day, you find your self saving someone from an assassination attempt? And what if that someone that you had surprisingly saved turned out to be the president of United States of America?! Well, Samantha Madison will surely tell you what your life will be after that heroic incident

But wait, if you actually thought that Samantha is a member of the Presidential Guards or some CIA agent, then you got it all wearing. She is a 15 years old, redheaded, Gothic-artist, high-school student which I actually thought could be suffering from a middle-child syndrome. Well, her older sister is a cheerleader in her school that of course had made her the most popular girl in school. And her older sister's boy-friend is the man of her dreams. And her younger sister is one of those children of Einstein. So those sisters had more or less made her insecure in terms of her looks and brain. But wait again, we are going far from the reason why a girl like her had saved the president. Let's just say, she was at the right place and at the right time.

But right after she had saved the president, Samantha herself and Samantha's life is never the same again. Aside from the obvious that she became popular (press-conference here and there), she became the teen-ambassador of United Nations. I never thought there's a position such as that.=) All of the sudden, people are idolizing her, the things that were uncool to some people before became "cool" because of her. And now finally, somebody had fallen in love with her and wait...it's the president's son! Don't you think that's too much? =)

As I come to about it, this book doesn't have the depth of Jane Austen's works or the sappiness of Nicholas Sparks. Maybe because in the first place, this is intended for young adults.Alright, it's actually pretty obvious that I loved reading the book. I really had fun while reading it! I love the Top Ten lists of Samantha every beginning of each chapter. And technically, the last time I read the book, I was on the last year of my teenage life, so I could more or less, had related to Samantha's experiences (but of course except the saving of the president part).

All American Girl is not just for all American girls out there. Any race could actually get to like this hilarious tale of a highschool student. And although this time, Meg Cabot's protagonist wait is no longer a princess, she had made us love another character in the person of Samantha Madison.
