HOW TO CHANGE THE WORLD

Recently, a very close friend of mine sent me a video and it really got me thinking about this whole idea of changing the world. While there is nothing wrong with this innate human desire for change since everyone of us are born with this desire for more life, not everyone really wants to take the required action to make the change happen and for those who do want to take the action and make the change happen, often don't know where or how to start. Considering these factors, one might be tempted to conclude just as my dear friend later did point out, that this whole idea of changing the world is sort of complicated. In other words, the mere thought of changing the world can be very overwhelming. And yes, i do quite agree with her, what you don't know do often appears overwhelming. So in this post, i will try to approach this whole idea of changing the world in a way that is less overwhelming.

Firstly, You cannot really change the world, you can only be the change you seek in the world!

I first came about this idea when i read this powerful quote by Mahatma Gandhi; " You must be the change you wish to see in the world" Why is this so you might wonder? The truth is this; ONE is too small a number to achieve greatness! The world is too large and too complicated for just one person alone to change. This is what makes changing the world somewhat difficult, but not impossible.

How then do you go about it? First within and then without. You cannot give what you do not have. To change the world, you must first model the change you wish to see in the world. No one is going to believe you if you aren't first an example of what you preach. As a small business consultant, in my quest to understand leadership, overtime I have repeatedly learnt and experienced personally that CHARACTER truly is the foundation of lasting leadership irrespective of whatever field of endeavour the leader finds himself. People will not follow you unless you are leading by example. The greatest key to making change happen is to first live out practically that change yourself. You must be that which you wish to see in others or the world. This is an age long principle, to get you must first give. If you seek love, you must first give love; if you seek kindness, you must first give or show kindness; if you seek change, you must first change.

So changing the world begins with YOU! If you don't live out the change you want to make happen in the world, changing the world will only
