I can answer this question in just three words; "More than ever!"
Look at it this way. You get out of bed in the morning, you stretch, you yawn, you put the kettle on. What is on your mind? Are you thinking about what you have to do at work today? Or perhaps you are unemployed and wondering what the day will bring. You may have a good life or going through a bad patch. Either way, test your feelings, test your sensations. Are you excited about something, or are you finding it difficult to get excited about anything? Are you anxious about the state of the world, or do you think things always take care of themselves?
The answers you give to these questions will give you a quick barometer reading of the state of your spiritual health. Your spiritual health goes up and down just like your physiology. You have a spirit clock just as you have a body clock. The two are not the same. If they were the same then your spirit would go up and down with the health of your body, but that plainly never happens, since the healthiest person can be miserable, and a dying patient soaring with elation. Or you can be up one day in spirit and down the next without any alteration in any of your physiological indicators. Spirit and body are separate parts.
If you agree with the logic of this, then take it further and ask the question: where is the apirit source? If the spirit is independent of the body and does not seem to be influenced by it, what controls the spirit?
Many people blame God for wars, for economic misery, for kids starving, but these things are not spiritual acitivities, they are human choices. If you believe you have a spirit that is independent of physical actions, that can rise and fall of its own volition or be influenced by your spiritual choices, then you will not be fooled into thinking that starvation is a spiritual necessity or that war is. No matter what is going in the world today the spirit can rise above it. Physical disturbances do not affect the spirit, only spiritual disturbances. Some people's spirits rise during a battle, others become fantastic during illness. Yet others who have absolutely nothing disturbing their physical comfort may never find a way through depression.
Now it is impossible to prove categorically that the God of the Bible is the source of our spiritual world, just as He is the Creator of our physical world, that's where faith comes in, but if we can agree that our spirits must have a source, a central control unit, then let us for the sake of argument call that centre God.
Now look around at the world. Is it perfect? Is it all fluffy clouds and bounding kittens? Or are there things going on that seriously upset you? With six billion people on the planet, consuming, polluting and profiteering, there's a definite need for some sort of spiritual antidote. That's why we need God today, more than ever.
