Planning the perfect wedding can consume every moment until the big day arrives. There are lists of tasks to be accomplished and it seems that sitting at work is just wasting your precious time. While trying on dresses or tasting cake can't be done at work, there are lots of smaller tasks that you can do while at work that will lighten your load.
1. Write the guest list. This will look like work to any peeping bosses, while saving you precious time when you get home. Write it in a notebook or email it to yourself, either way you'll be happy that you got paid to get it done.
2. Create your wedding website. As long as your employer doesn't monitor what sites you go to, feel free to create and update your official wedding website.
3. Look for inspiration. Surf through sites to check out dresses, flowers, photographers, venues, gather ideas.
4. Make a to-do list. List things you need to do tonight, this weekend, or next month. Having all your thoughts outlined will help you concentrate on work after your list is complete.
5. Call vendors. Make quick calls for price quotes, date availability, ask questions, or to set appointments.
6. Address your invitations. You have a clear desk and lots of pens, so go at it. This is one of the most time consuming wedding tasks, so getting paid to do it will make it a little more fun. For added discretion, only bring the envelopes with you, and get out only two or three at a time.
7. Register for gifts on-line. Many retailers offer this as an option. Create an account and start registering for gifts. You can manage your registry and change things as needed.
8. Gather phone numbers and contacts. Email all the information you will need to contact vendors to yourself so you will have a handy list when you have free time at home.
9. Don't think about the wedding. Spending your time at work, not thinking about the wedding can be a nice break from all the stress of planning. Knowing that for those eight hours you are free from the endless lists and decisions can be very calming.
While doing these things at work, discretion is key. Make sure you keep all wedding paraphernalia hidden or just leave it at home. Limit the amount of time everyday that you plan for your wedding so it is not noticeable that you are dividing your attention between what they pay you to do and what you are actually doing. Also, remember that when your wedding is over you will still be going to work, so avoid doing anything that will put your job in jeopardy.
