There Must be a God
Since the beginning of mankind, humans inherently wanted and needed to believe in a deity, a higher power, or something greater than their mortal selves.
Where does this spiritual predisposition come from? Why are people instinctively and, almost at a genetic level, prone to believe and have faith in a deity? After all, it wouldn't be generally instinctive for people to believe so strongly in something they couldn't see, touch, or otherwise identify personally. It would seem that humans would need a little help with that ability.
What is more extraordinary is that the strength of this instilled belief system transcends the primal instinct to survive.
For example, going back to the time of the Roman Emperor Nero, Christians would rather die than worship someone other than their God. Another example would be the Aztecs who conducted religious rituals involving human sacrifices. Polynesians paid homage to their volcano gods by sacrificing virgin girls. Greeks created many mythological gods, as did the Egyptians.
Even today we have suicide bombers more than willing to die for their religious convictions.
So how does this history of strong religious belief provide evidence to suggest that there is a God?
Pretend for a moment you were able to design your children, as certainly God was in a position to do when he created Man. Wouldn't you want to instill in your child the willingness to love, honor and respect you, as long as this devotion did not come at the expense of free will and self-determination? Accordingly, wouldn't God want to create in us the capacity and need to believe in Him?
It would seem that we are hardwired for religious belief. Somehow our own ecclesiastical BIOS is programmed to accept the concept of a divine supreme being(s) and the religious culture associated with it.
