As much as I love a good board game, I must side with video games being more entertaining. For me, after playing board games for many years, you usually know how the game will end. With video games, the possibilities are endless.
Especially since there are games out there that allow you to play the game how you want to, then the ending will be different each time you play...like Fable which is out for the XBox and PC. You get much re-playability out of that game as with the Sims and GTA.
A lot of people may argue and say that video games do not stimulate the mind like a board game...so not true. A lot of video games are puzzles and make the player figure out riddles and quests before you can advance to the next level. You really have to plan your strategy and focus to play video games. How can you really play Monopoly with strategy? That is just the luck of the dice.
I also think that video games are longer and more in depth. I played Square Enix's Kingdom Hearts for 3 days straight, finding all the Dalmatians, figuring out some riddles and battling through countless heartless to defeat the evil Disney Villains. Then, I played Yahtzee and got really bored after the second game.
The repetitiveness of board games is their downfall. When playing a video game two or three times, the newness never wears off because you find new ways to conquer the game and see things you may have missed the first time through. Whereas UNO, is always played the same and nothing ever changes with it.
Why be limited to the strict rules of board games when the endless rules of video games keep on trucking and bringing in new generations of gamers. If you notice, to get a lot more people to play board games, they are going electronic or actually being made for the consoles on the market so that people will play them.
Honestly, I think board games are going to become a thing of the past. Plus, when you have board games, you lose the pieces, use all of the pieces then have to go buy more and it takes awhile to put some of the pieces away ie...Life and Monopoly. You do not have to worry about losing the pieces when playing video games. The down side to video games is you can erase them on accident. I have done that numerous times, then you have to start over, which isn't so bad because you can find things you may have missed before.
I know that video gaming is an expensive hobby, but I would be lost without it. So, in conclusion, video gaming is much more entertaining than board games. They also help you learn logics and eye hand coordination.
