Superficial beauty: Judgment

"Don't hate me because I'm beautiful"

Years ago, this popular television commercial circulated the airwaves to advertise the hair care product attached to it. The beautiful model would stare directly into the camera with a smirk on her face and deliver this popular one line quote as if to taunt viewers.

Since then, this quote has become infamous; many people recite the words as they poke fun by pouting their lips and batting their eyelashes.

Unfortunately there are those who truly believe that they live their lives consistent to this quote. When we hear of women who somberly speak about their inordinate beauty and the misfortunes attached to it, we have to scratch our heads.

I can only sit in awe as I listen and read about young women who frequently whine and sulk about being "too" beautiful. They complain about issues such as "guys not asking them out because men are intimidated by their beauty". They express despondency about "how they are constantly under scrutiny because of their good looks," "how females are customarily jealous of them" and "how wherever they go, they are regularly ogled by men."

Although I am not a guy, from what I understand about the dating scene is "a man will likely approach a woman based upon his taste and her body language" If a woman has already made up her mind to believe she is of exceptional beauty, then it is destined to reflect in her demeanor. I do not know too many men that would approach a particular woman if he feels that "invisible" wall up. Secondly, it is my humble opinion that no matter whom you are, what you look like or how you present yourself, you will always come under some type of scrutiny. Third, women will always be jealous to some degree. It certainly does not take much to set off the green-eyed look in any female; a new pair of Jimmy Choo shoes, a late model car, or a sleek dress attached to a slender figure will do it; don't take it personal. And lastly, a man will ogle. Sorry guys but it is true; for some men it does not take much but a skirt and a set of legs, or maybe a pair of jeans painted on a set of legsguys will be guys.

My advice is to deal with it for the time being; there are worse things that one may have to deal with; not to mention there are worse things that one can be discriminated for. Beauty is not forever, it fades; I will be the first person to admit this. I certainly do not have the same luxurious looks that I had ten to fifteen years ago. But even as I look back on the days when I allowed
