Life After 60 Is Alive and Well
Having passed the 60-year mark for birthdays celebrated over two years ago, I can truthfully say that there is indeed "Life after 60". Life after 60 may not ever be as energetic as when you were a teenager, and it will likely turn out to have more aches and pains than you used to have in your younger days, and you may have to get used to the word "grandfather" or any variation thereof, but guess what! The chances are that you most likely can still get out and do various activities including going to work, whether it be for someone else or in your own business; and you can still go out in the evenings or on weekends to exercise, whether it's on a golf course, a nature trail, a sports club, or just walking or running in the outdoors air and sunshine; and you can even treat yourself to dinner and a play at the local theater if that is what interests you.
There are so many different activities that the person of 60+ years can still be involved with and continue to enjoy life and what it still has to offer despite being a part of what many younger people refer to as the "older generation". If you are past 60 years of age, how many times have you been complemented indirectly by someone guessing your age as anywhere from 5 to 10 years younger than your true age. How many times do you feel that you still are young at heart with a mind that does not feel as if it belongs to someone past 60 years of age. In other words, you are only as old as you feel. And, if you feel like you should be 10 or 20 years younger than your current age, give in to that feeling. You definitely will not age as fast as someone who feels older than they actually are chronologically.
In decades past, people used to look more their age than they do now. Exercising more and eating healthier are a couple of ways we have gotten past that situation. Also, better medical and health care in general gives the past 60 person of today a brighter outlook on life. This allows that person to interact in more positive ways with those around him or her. People today are remaining active even into their 70's and 80's, working longer at their present job or else finding another job after they retire to supplement their retirement and Social Security income. Very few of the retirees of today are becoming "couch potatoes" as they seem to have outside interests that can help carry them through their retirement years, keeping them active and healthy longer.
