If you have a runner in your life, gift ideas abound that will satisfy just about any budget and please your runner at the same time. While running is a relatively "simple" sport, in that it doesn't involve as much gear as other activities, it still has a variety of necessities and gadgets runners need and want.
10. A GPS Watch
If the runner in your life is a marathoner, a GPS watch is the holy grail of running gadgets. These watches utilize satellite technology and allow your runner to have an at-a-glance view of such things as her pace, distance and time. In addition, the data collected from these watches can be uploaded to your computer for analysis, which the typical obsessive-compulsive distance runner loves. These devices are invaluable since they allow for freedom in choosing routes on the fly, vs. being a slave to pre-defined routes that usually involve hopping in your car and mapping them for accuracy. They can be pricey compared to a traditional watch, with some models priced around $200 and newer models costing even more. But for the serious runner, they are a must-have.
9. Running Socks
On the cheaper end of the scale, you can look at something as simple as running socks. This is one piece of equipment that while inexpensive, is an absolute necessity for any runner, beginner or advanced. Running socks take advantage of moisture wicking technology that prevents blisters. An absolute must for any runner on the road.
8. Running clothes
Depending upon the season, there are a variety of different clothes from which to choose. In the winter, you have hats, gloves, warm running pants and long-sleeved technical shirts that again take advantage of moisture wicking fabrics that breathe, but also keep your runner warm. In warmer temperatures, there are a variety of running shorts, baseball-style hats, shirts and tanks to consider, providing the same moisture-wicking factor that the winter clothes have.
7. Fuel
This gift pertains to those runners who like to "go the distance" and run races of a half-marathon distance or more. On longer endurance runs, the body requires fuel that can be quickly digested and absorbed, thus the advent of such products as energy gels and snacks such as Clif Shot Bloks and Sports Beans. Again, these items are inexpensive and could be paired with other items in this list for a great gift basket.
6. Running Pack
A running pack is a useful item for a runner to have while out and about. It secures around the waist and has zipper compartments
