The pros and cons of creating video games based on movies

As a gamer in todays world, it's hard not to notice the excessive amounts of video games being created that are based on hit Hollywood films. Sadly these games usually aren't what gamers expect and end up being swept under the rug by pretty much any video game because of how bad they turn out.

Video games based on movies have always been frowned down upon by gamers just like films based on video games have been frowned upon by everyone. Nevertheless it becomes some filming companies executives great idea to make a video game based on the film they are working on.

There are many different pros and cons for this type of thing happening in the gaming industry. Take note that their are exceptions to the bad history of films based on video games. Every once and a while there's a game that shatters what we believed the game would be like, and surprises us, basically forcing gamers to see the actual film.

Pros

From the view of network executives, creating video games based on films is an extra stream of income because no matter what someone ends up buying it. Even better, if the film is a children's movie, then a game will sell well based on the fact that children will bug their parents until they get it.

For gamers this film based games are usually horrible but its nice to see more money being put into the gaming industry even if the games aren't that great. Thankfully not all of these games turn out horrible, and every once and awhile gamers are surprised by an amazing game based on a film.

In fact one of the best video games ever created was based on a film, GoldenEye for Nintendo 64. The game was based on the James Bond film of the same name, and was insanely popular when first released for the console. It is also widely regarded as one of the best first person console shooting games of all time.

Cons

Of course there are multiple reasons that video games based on films shouldn't be made. One of those reasons is the fact that usually video games based on films are completely horrible has mentioned numerous times. Secondly is the fact that when bad video games are made it effects all of us gamers.

Gaming has grown over the years into a massive mutli-billion dollar industry. Each and every game effects how the industry is viewed by the outsiders, so when an extremely bad game is released every gamers image has the possibility of being completely ruined just so some network can make a few extra million or so dollars.
