God gave me a revelation many years ago about the spirit of Balaam. I've written it on a paper and keep it in my Bible. Recently I began contemplating some things I've been noticing, and I thought I'd send a quick teaching blog out about it. Please note that what I'm getting isn't just for my church. I believe the spirit of Balaam is a tactic that the enemy is using to try to seep into all the churches. Let's be wise to the tactic's of the enemy.
Balaam in the Bible is most commonly known for being a false prophet. Balak in Numbers 22-24 gets all freaked out because the children of Israel are prospering so he hires Balaam to curse Israel for him. As it turns out as much as Balaam tries to curse them he can't. God keeps giving him words of blessing over the people. But little did I realize until I did some digging the Bible doesn't just stop at this story. Balaam is mentioned in the Bible a couple of times.
In Revelation 2:14 the Bible is talking about the Pergamos church and here is what it says, "But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold to the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols and to commit sexual immorality." Basically Balaam realizes he can't curse them so Balak figures out he can lure them into sin so they can be cursed.
The name Balaam literarily comes from the words Ba which means no, or nothing and laam which means people. Balaam means the no nothing people. Nothing of substance.
I would have thought that God's big issue with Balaam is that he was a false prophet but it seems in the Bible if you study the amount of times Balaam is mentioned God's ticked off at him for something else too. In Nehemiah 13:2 the Bible says that God is holding him responsible for not feeding God's children bread and water. Wait what is that? God's not only upset for Balaam for being a false prophet but He's upset because he saw the children of Israel in the wilderness, and Balaam would rather curse them than help them. Huh?
Symbolically in the New Testament the water is the Holy Spirit and Jesus is the bread of life. The Lord is upset at Balaam because not only did he try to curse them but also he watched them in the wilderness and didn't try to feed them bread and water.
So how can we apply this today? Well there are various meanings here. The term being in the wilderness is typically used in the Bible as going through a season of hardship. What God is
