Teenagers should be orientated in the way of being able to take a decision by themselves.
And being this a decision with obvious consequences on who the teenager will be in the future, this demands from both parents, as well as close relatives and friends all their support.
Opting for a given profession instead of another is not something to do lightheartedly, but something on which there must be thorough discussion and analysis.
So, if you have a teenager under your care, it is important to help him / her to choose wisely according to his / her capabilities., in order to avoid lack of interest and failure over the school years to come.
In fact, there are many reported cases of graduated students who at some point of their student careers found out that the course they were in were not fit for their characteristics, and ended up enrolling in a different course, of their liking.
And speaking of university careers - as a student - it is important to know how a given course is structured.
For instance, those students with difficulties studying Mathematics that may think that an university course in computer science can be a way to avoid dealing with Mathematics, although being this course, in fact, bases on calculation. So, avoid orientating you son / daughter towards courses that may be problematic in terms of its disciplines.
Remember that, alternatively, that are also professional courses that can also be a valid option after graduating from high school.
Now, if you are graduating from high school, and you are safe of your choice facing university studies, it is important to discuss your ideas with those who can give you valid advice about your plans for the future.
Besides talking to your friends and family, it is also of vital importance to listen to your former teachers' opinions because, probably better than anyone else, they will be able to access your capabilities and difficulties.
On the other hand, if you are still studying or graduating from high school, and are still in doubt about what to do in order to proceed with your student career, why not request help from a psychologist and take some psychotechnic tests?
In any way, the common factor is to find a solution by which the teenager may be pleased looking at his / her future, whether as a student, whether as a qualified professional.
The most important thing is to allow the teenager to take his / her time to freely take decisions and without negative interference regardless of what these decisions may be.
