Getting inspired

by John Hewitt

Inspiration. That sudden rush of creativity that motivates you and allows you to express yourself. Where does it come from and how do you find it?

Well for me personally I find that while I'm waiting for that "Ah-Ha" moment I distract myself. I start off with a moment of stillness as if I'm telling the Universe "Hi I'm here and I'm ready!" and then I browse the web or order yet another latte. I will "accidentally" eavesdrop on conversations in my coffee shop or I'll sit and soak in that rare moment of illumination as the English sun makes its brief appearance through the clouds. That's funny, "the English sun". I wonder if each country has its own? Anyway, as I drag myself out of that tangent, as you can see I acknowledge that I am seeking inspiration and then I do nothing about it. It is similar to those 3D magic pictures. The more you crunch up your eyes, stare like a madman and then massage the headache, the less you see. You then get so frustrated you give up for a moment, relax your eyes and "Ah-Ha it's a spaceship!"

There will always be something that presents itself while I'm waiting for that moment. It could be a simple phrase overheard from the table next to me or something I see on the news while I'm web surfing. The one thing I know though is that it does come. Actually to be honest, the inspiration is already there. It is always there and it waits like a Christmas present expecting to be unwrapped at any moment. Those inspirational moments are moments of unwrapping where you see for a moment with new eyes and in a new way. It is like that "English Sun". I know it is there it just happens to be hidden at the moment!

So when the moment strikes it does feel like I have joined a slip stream and I am carried with the flow of the water as the creativity pours out from me. I can then write and write and write some more. I can have an idea for my business or I can suddenly see how to deal with a particular problem.

We are now looking beyond artistic creativity. We are now looking at life inspiration. Where you want to be and what you want to do. There really is no difference between waiting to write an article or deciding what the next step is with your life. Inspiration is inspiration and comes from a place and source of power that is part of the fabric of your very being and part of the Universe itself. The more you open up to this idea the more you will see the truth of it. You have within you the means and the ability to transform your writing, your problems,
