So you've been selected to attend an interview! Great! With the smile of excitement, your next thought floats around,"What do I wear?" Why do you ask yourself that? The truth is "what you see is what you believe". An interview is more than a tie and a smile. Examples work best to explain how body language can actually give you away...
Let's say you are applying for a managerial post. Your super-shiny resume got you ahead of most candidates. Wonderful, you are called for an interview. You pick out a neat set of clothes that suit you best and head off.
As you enter the room, you are asked if you'd like a glass of water to drink. Most people say, "No thanks!" and clearly indicate that they are panicky. But you're a winner, you put up a smile and say, "A glass of water would be just fine, thank you." Here, the smile compliments your positive nature and shows you're not in the middle of a storm. Although interviewers ask you mind boggling questions, there's a point why they do that. The time span you take to think how to answer their questions, although it is a split second, they observe your face, your hands and your posture.
Let's breakdown gesture part by part:
~ Face I'll start with your eyes. The eyes are the windows to your soul. A lot is said by the eyes when words don't quite fulfill the requirement. If your eyes are darting all across the room instead of being locked in the interviewer's for an important question could be a big fall in points for you! And you'd wonder why you weren't selected.
Forehead - yes, I mean - forehead. The lines on your forehead clearly state the type of a thinker you are. Lines because of age is different. It can symbolise stress and tension harbour in your head. So watch out the next time you raise your eyebrows in worry, it actually leaves a mark behind.
Smile - More than the words that come out of your mouth. A subtle smile on your lips clearly show your positive side. It indicates that you don't lose your temper fast. The saying is true, it is one curve that can set many things straight.
~ Shoulder and Hands
Do you stoop and sit like a "C"? Your posture can say many things about you. A straight posture indicates you are top of the shelf in health consciousness and fall ill rarely. A person with a slouch can be a signature of boredom and way-to-casual to work.
