I don't think the World Series should be played on a neutral field. Based on what grounds?
While the game is certainly having it's problems I don't think they should be compounded by altering something that's not in need of being fixed. How would changing the format of the World Series benefit the fans and the game? It won't. It will only do more harm than good.
Yes, the NFL plays the Super Bowl on a neutral field but that's part of the history of their sport. It's embedded in the culture of the NFL. The World Series has never been played on a neutral field and there's no reason to start now. Changes should only be made unless it enhances the sport and increases fan interest. Changing the World Series format from it's present format doesn't make practical sense.
From a fan standpoint it makes sense to have the fans cheer their teams who are in the World Series in their home city. This will continue to boost those cities financially and provide the fans with the chance of seeing their team play in the biggest games of the year.
Bug Selig has already destroyed the structure of the All-Star game by proclaiming that the winner of the game would be home team in the World Series. That makes no sense. The team with the best record between the National and American League winners should be the home team. The latter is logical and makes sense.
The problem with sports is there are too many people who understand business but don't understand sports. They are great and looking at profit and loss sheets but lack the sensitivity of giving the fans what they want and simultaenously enhancing franchises and ultimately the sport. People like Selig are more insterested in what makes sense economically rather than giving the fans what they wish to have. Does this sound familiar?
Government has shown through their actions that they care very little about what the people want. If they did American's tax dollars wouldn't have been spent to bail out big business. Instead of giving "our" many to big business it should be given to the people. Also, the American people should be involved in the decision-making process-the same should exist in sports.
In professional sports a similar situation prevails. Too many people like Selig are interested in enhancing the game economically and don't take into account the fans best interests. This leads to tinkering with rules and the integrity of the game which ultimately destroys it along with fan interest.
Leave the World Series alone and work on getting steroids out of the game instead.
