How to write a successful and popular blog

by Marcus Brooks

Created on: April 19, 2009

In 2008, America got to know Perez Hilton. He established a celebrity blog that bring audiences inside Hollywood. He made no bones on criticizing A-list stars for their fashion sense, acting performances and public behavior. On Chelsea Lately, Chelsea Handler made her contempt for Hilton well-known. She deserved off-handed comments while he attended her "round table" segments. Her anger came from a report that she received her show by dating her Comcast CEO boyfriend.

Hilton did five things to create his highly, successful blog.

USE CREATIVE PROMOTION

Hilton took the name of a Bevelry Hills socialite name Paris Hilton. However, he didn't get sued for his trademark infringement. Paris grew to be a fan of "the other Hilton". He also refrained from criticizing her sometimes, odd behavior. But, with the Hilton name, he gained instant celebrity. He cemented it using the internet to broadcast his blog. Later, he did the talk-show circuit. A couple of months ago, Perez released his first book. His name became linked in exclusive, Hollywood circles.

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OPPORTUNITIES

When Lindsay Lohan had her infamous DUI arrest, Hilton wrote about it. When Tara Reid admitted herself into rehab, he wrote about that as well. Hilton's blogs showed no mercy to Hollywood's "bad girls". A number of actors and actresses discovered their names in the name "Perez Hilton" on top of the page. He expanded on Chris Brown's and Rihanna's, pre-Grammy altercation. While doing this, he angered some A-listers. He also received his own amount of negative criticism. But, any news gave him more publicity.

BLOG ABOUT A FAMILIAR SUBJECT

Perez Hilton used a typical model. He wrote what he knew most about. Being a follower of pop culture, he wrote about pop culture. His blogs made sense. Rap artist, Lil Wayne followed sports for years. This past year, he began blogging for ESPN. He also made appearances on ESPN's First Take as a guest analyst. He took on the esteemed, Skip Bayless on a couple of sports debates. But, he wrote on what he knew about. Plus, he found an audience to write to.

PAY YOUR DUES

At the start, bloggers literally starved. Hilton was no different. A few years ago, no one knew of him. However, he created a persona and combined it with excruiating work and dedication.

DRAW A ROAD MAP TO YOUR SUCCESS

I paid my dues by working on four, writing sites. I also freelanced myself for different, writing projects. By doing this, I created an audience to target my first, crime novel towards. For two years, I posted about 1100 articles on Helium, about 150 articles on Gather and 30 articles on Instablogs. Plus, I also posted over 200 poems online. In addition, I started a blog on my myspace page with links to Facebook, Twitter and Reddit. Since 2007, I posted around 1400 submissions.
