Careers In Music
This is an age where various forms of music are easily found for listening enjoyment through the internet, and other media. And for young people interested in establishing a career in music, there are a lot of advantages. And are faced, at the same time, with certain disadvantages.
It's hard for young people to imagine a world without CD players and ipods. Or days when eight track players and vinyl LPs were the standard.
In the early 50s and 60s, for instance, musicians that could play reasonably well, could often find work and those that showed true talent, had a greater chance of establishing themselves in and industry that was still wide open. Today, digital media has created such a wide range of music that is easily accessible and so varied, the days of the garage band hitting the "big time" with a record label are some what in jeopardy.
That's not to say that young or old people with a true gift cannot make it. The internet can be an outstanding tool for widespread exposure of an individual or groups music through myspace or you tube. Take for instance the Youtube broadcast of Susan Boyle, such a truly incredible talent no one seemed to know of, and now no one can forget.
The competitive nature of music performance is greater than it has ever been. And it is important today, more than ever, that people persuing a musical career should make every effort to ensure that their musical act or performance is polished and flawless, because you never know who might be in the audience.
When musicians like the Beatles started their career, they became famous almost over night. When they came to the United States, they were an instant hit. The young women were mobbing and begging for their autographs. The Beatles were one of the first bands to hit the big time, in the 60's.
In 1969, Woodstock was the largest Concert of any concert in the U.S. It lasted for 7 days. It had one of the largest collection of bands.
A musician can also use his/her musical career for doing jingles for movies and commercials. Like in 'Two and a half Men', Charlie Harper plays a musician who creates jingles for different companies.
Even young kids, can get a singing career, or even a musical career playing a guitar, bass, drums. Any age group can get a music career off the ground.
A lot of young people are starting to form bands, and trying to get a name for themselves. Which I think is a great thing. I think young people today should try to broaden their horizons. And try to make a good start to a fulfilling life.
