He was an unassuming man; you wouldn't think twice. But there was something compelling about him that drew you to look again and again. Born in meager surroundings, yet visited by wise men, gifted with fine items, he was known at birth. His greatness was perceived by not just these wise men, but by other nobility as well. Some had evil intent. So evil, that when they heard of his birth, babies were ordered to be murdered in the hopes that he would be eradicated. But the baby escaped unharmed, and grew.
He was raised by humble, hard working parents; his father was a carpenter and his mother a homemaker.
As he grew his mother taught him scripture and about his Father, God. Whether he knew from birth or through the study of scripture, is something I don't know, but he was aware that he was the Son of God. He was the Messiah.
Jesus also knew what He would have to endure to complete His mission on earth, yet He chose to continue on. This perfect Son of God was in total obedience to our Father. God forgives us when we are weak, but He takes great delight when we are obedient and trust in Him. Our Heavenly Father took extreme pleasure in Jesus. , even proclaiming; "This is my Son, in whom I am well pleased."
Jesus continued to grow and study, and would often speak to the priests and other religious leaders in the synagogues, astounding them with His knowledge.
At age 30, He left home to spread the word about His Father, the one and only true God. He healed infirmities, restored sight to the blind, helped the lame to walk and even raised the dead from the grave. He extended mercy and compassion to the wretched, weak and hopeless. People clamored to be near Him. The crowds grew bigger and bigger, drawing the attention of the leaders.
The leaders were growing concerned. This man had too much influence over these people. Eventually, they chose to do something about Him.
Betrayed by a friend, arrested, beaten, mocked and nailed to a cross, Our Savior chose to be led to the slaughter; to be the ultimate sacrifice for sin. Past, present and future sin, because of Him, we are forgiven.
Because He died, we now live. I know of no other figure in History, that will do what He did for us; not just those that love Him, but for all men. His compassion and the salvation that is available through His sacrifice are available for everyone. All one needs to do is to accept this precious costly gift. Jesus Christ is my ultimate hero; Savior, Messiah, Wonderful Counselor.
