Owning a gun is a right in the United States, although you would not know that by what you have to go through to own one in this country. The reason our forefathers sought to have this in the constitution is for personal protection. That is protection against those who would do you harm. This could be a criminal, an army, even our own army. If our government has been taken over by the evil ones, how would do defend ourselves from them without guns? If we go to war here, and you offer me a stick or a gun, sorry, but I am taking the gun.
The cat is out of the bag. You can't un-invent the gun. The technology is there, along with the new "beam" weapons that have already been developed. Someone with bad intentions will have a gun or something worse, and the only way to counter that is with guns or something worse for the ones with bad intentions. Let's take England for example. There was a time when the police there didn't carry guns. A stick is not a very good counter to a gun, as the British found out, and now their police are armed as well. With that said, you will never find all the guns.
Another reason for the right to own a gun
is for hunting. We all take for granted that we can go to the store and purchase a hamburger or steak. One has to ask however, what would we do if the stores all closed? What if the ability to go and buy meat went away? We would have to hunt. If we weren't allowed to hunt, that skill would be lost. We would all like to think that the US would never meet this end, but every great empire before us has met its demise, and without the proper care of our constitution, ours could do the same. This could come by government takeover, some sort of disaster man made, natural or alien. Everyone should learn how to hunt fish and grow some food. Our country used to be able to take care of itself in this way, as proved in the great depression. Many of us got by, by growing and canning our gardens, raising our own animals, and hunting.
In the end, there will always be people, evil and good, who will develop new technologies to kill, maim or neutralize another being, human or not. There is good and bad in everyone. Lately it seems like more bad than good. We must be able to protect our families from crime, invasion, and starvation. If the proverbial crap hits the fan here in the US, with even more economic disasters, or some kind of globe wide fascist take over, or even if the evil aliens from Oligarch 9 come, we need to keep ourselves alive, keep our families safe, and feed them with whatever we can track down in the forest. Frankly, my advice to you is to "lose" some of your weapons in some packed grease buried in the ground along with a good chunk of ammo. Because if they come to try and take your guns, you know that we now have one very crappy fan and a very smelly room.
