You have been hit with a serious case of wanderlust, you are itching to travel and want to start packing your bags right away, and it seems that everything is working in your favor! You have been given time off work, you have enough money saved for a great trip, but then you realize you have no one to go with and you mentally start unpacking those bags.
Stop! Before you cancel those vacation plans you might want to consider taking a solo trip. It might sound scary but there are some serious pros to traveling alone.
One of the biggest advantages to traveling alone is that you are the boss! Imagine you get to decide the whole trip, with no negotiating and no arguing.
Say for example you have always wanted to rough it across Cambodia but your usual travel partner always likes to stay in very comfy, cosy places, well now is your chance to stay in a small hut in a village, if that is what you want.
By traveling alone you are in control over everything, including your budget which means if you want to stay in less expensive hotels or more expensive ones the choice is up to you, you do not have to consider a traveling partner's budget.
If you are traveling by yourself you decide what time to go to bed or when to wake up. It can be hard traveling with someone who is a night owl and a late riser if you are an early bird.
When traveling by yourself you also decide what you are going to eat and when you are going to eat. Maybe you are someone who wants to eat what the locals are eating, or you prefer your usual favorites, the choice is up to you.
There is nothing worse than traveling with someone who wants to do nothing but sit at the beach all day if you want to tour the island or what if you hate museums and your traveling partner drags you to museum after museum. When traveling on your own you decide what to see.
And remember you might start your travels on your own, but you never have to be alone, there are always opportunities to meet people when traveling.
Of course there are some cons to traveling alone.
There is nothing better then going over your pictures and turning to your travel partner and saying "remember when we rode across the desert on camels" or what ever great adventure you experienced and reliving the moment. If you travel alone chances are you will not have someone to reminisce with.
A big con about traveling alone is that it can be more expensive because there is no one to split costs with. In most hotels you tend to pay almost the same price for a double
