How to decorate your bedroom with light

Nothing transforms a bedroom quicker than the right light. Perhaps the biggest injustice you can do to your bedroom is the huge, bright light bulb hanging from the ceiling, or the equally oversized table lamp ensconced on the night stand, leaving little place for anything else.

1. Energy Conservation. Bright lights draw electricity, lots of it, so keep conservation in mind while creating a great mood. Change the bulbs in your lamps to soft, low energy lighting. Avoid cumbersome lamps and switches. The off switch on your lamps should be easily accessible which would assist you in turning off lights and saving energy. Your bedroom will have a much warmer glow while you save money.

2. Colored Bulbs. What is the color scheme of your room? Do you have sky blue drapes, sea foam green sheets? Use these colors to your advantage when adding lighting. Replacing the bulb in your lamp with a colored one will cast a glow and immediately change the ambience in your room.

3. Candle arrangement. Well arranged candles can also add a great romantic feel and a relaxing atmosphere to your bedroom. Choose different sizes and group them together in a large glass tray. Add dried or fresh flower petals, water, river rocks or decorative stones. Use colors that complement your walls, bedding, drapes and floor. Don't be afraid to experiment with a variety of colors and textures.

4. Scented candles are perhaps the ultimate mood enhancing feature of a bedroom. Choose your scent and experiment with complimentary scents. Concentrate on earthy tones and light fresh colors for the spring and summer months. If you are using a cinnamon scented candle, add cinnamon sticks and whole nutmeg to the candle holder. Sprinkle with dried flower petals.

5. Candle placement. Decide on how and where you want to place your candles for the best decorative effect; on your night stand, dresser top, foot board or head board. Candles can be arranged either singly or grouped using items from around the home or items that can be picked up for very little. Arrange them on a wooden cutting board, a glass or china plate, a pottery bowl, cup or tray, vintage glass and plastic trays and a three-holed brick are just a few of the options available.

6. Natural light cannot be overlooked. Especially in spring and summer, allow the interplay of natural light with your bedroom dcor. Nothing is more beautiful than the combination of light, whimsy curtains with the natural light. Choose fabrics and color that would make the most
