Rescue dogs are wonderful. Not only do they appreciate the love they get, but do make for a most loyal friend. I not only have known many people that have rescued dogs and have never been sorry for doing so. I write only of dogs because I have never been anything else but a dog lover. I have personally never owned a cat. Some of my best friends are cat owners and love their pets. I love dogs. I love all animals, but am particularly fond of dogs. I can't remember ever living in a home without one.
I have rescued several dogs and have always been more than pleased. Never have I encountered a bad dog. I have known a lot of bad parents. I have trained dogs and really believe they are in many cases smarter than people, especially the people that are unkind to animals. I currently volunteer at a dog rescue and love the different personalities of these wonderful four legged creatures. A dog will give so much of himself, even though the last owners were less than desirable. These dogs are very grateful for the rescue and will give more love than ever expected.
I rescued a black lab almost two years ago. I already had a pedigree dog, which I loved. The reason I adopted this dog is that the owner was ill and unable to care for him. I could not allow the family to place him at the city shelter. He is a terrific, loving dog. This dog would give his life for me if needed. We bonded immediately and my pedigree dog loved him. Unfortunately my original beautiful pedigree dog got very ill and I had no choice but to end his suffering. I was devastated. However my lab was also devastated. I grieved for months. My lab also grieved to the point that he refused to eat for almost two months. I took him to the vet and was told to give him time, that he was grieving. I gave him a lot of love and he gave me the same. It has now been ten months, and although I miss my giant white bear like dog, I take comfort from my lab. I believe he is aware of everything that happens. He reacts primarily for my sake. I have never had a dog that is all heart and one hundred percent love. I have trained my lab to walk on a leash and heel. He knows the basic commands, but he also is learning different tricks. He is in the process of playing dead. He already knows how to shake. As I mentioned, he is very smart. He is also smart enough to know my moods. Not even my husband caught on that quickly.
If you want a companion that is loving, a good listener, never fights or argues, loves to go wherever you want
