For some writers, writing may not be an automatic thing. It is understandable to wait for the inspiration to start a piece, or to step away from something already in progress to get your head clear and organize your thoughts. At the same time, you should never stop writing just for the sake of inspiration. You should write every day, no matter if it's the most brilliant writing you've ever done or the worst abomination you could ever imagine.
Inspiration is important. Without inspiration, you can not expect any work to be more than a piece of well-crafted, well-polished mediocrity. And please, in reading this, do not get the wrong idea about inspiration. It doesn't have to be Inspiration, the divine burst of creativity from some muse or other higher power. Inspiration can come in any form. Maybe you decide you want to write the next bestseller and you're determined to do it. Maybe you just feel the conviction that you have to, and this is enough inspiration to get you going. Or maybe you do need the more divine kind.
And don't fool yourself into thinking that inspiration is going to be enough to get you from start to finish. Sure, the inspiration should probably accompany you the whole way, but it doesn't usually hit the keys on your computer or push your pen across the paper. You have to do the writing. You have to be disciplined enough to finish what you start.
So, whether you're writing an article on Helium, the next epic poem, or a national bestseller that's going to spawn a blockbuster movie with a bunch of sequels, writing is the only way to get any writing accomplished.
