out. Remember, when you take your child to the doctor or emergency room, you will be exposing your child to other sick people. Do you really need to do that or can you get along with what you are already doing. Many times the ailment just needs to run its course and it will be over without any intervention.
5. Don't panic: This is especially true for new parents of newborns. Remaining calm and alert will go a long way to helping your child get the care they need. A parent who is calm will be able to ask the right questions, understand the information the doctor gives, and will present a peace around the child which will comfort and reassure them.
6. Get educated: Sometimes parents have to deal with a chronic problem. The parent is the main advocate for the child. Doctors are good and mean well, but they are not infallible. You need to know as much as you can find out when your child is suffering with a disease that goes beyond normal childhood health problems. Again, don't panic. Get educated and be part of the medical team that will help your child thrive.
These are just a few tips to consider. If you consider these tips when your child is well, you will be better prepared when they become sick. We all want to be the best parent we can be, but really all it takes to raise a healthy, happy child is to be a "good enough" parent. We made, it didn't we? Our parents turned out to be "good enough" in spite of what we thought. Now take on the day.
