Batman:
In the dark Gotham city, there is a creature that lurks in the dark. He is mysterious as a lost Egyption tomb, he is as ghost-like as a spirit hailing through the world in the afterlife realm, and he is as common as a garden gnome. Yes, he is the masked wonder, the man with the cape, the crusader to rise against all city evil and corruption - he is Batman.
Batman has an extensive biography in the back of his cape - he has fought against a corrupt mayor who loves to sneak around doing evil deeds in order to keep his hold on the high seat; he has protected the sleeping world as an un-loved penguin, a happy smiley evil clown, and a sultry, seductive, sleek, sly cat woman, and pack of their evil followers, all join in order to attack the city, for some planned purpose.
It is a hard task to keep the order, and he cannot do it alone. A Batman isn't magic, he needs the help of Robin in order to keep the city safe. However Robin is just a young, inexperienced youth, who falls for the traps of the evil allures all too easily. He doesn't always provide the best of help - but he does provide the direction of evil very well, before Batman comes in and saves the day.
Superman:
Superman is the muscle man, who comes from the planet Krypton. He is sent to Earth by his mother and father, in order to escape the evil peril that threatens their home planet. He hits Earth, and makes friends with an elderly farm couple who find his burnt capsule in the dust.
After some education, the Superman finds a secret calling, that leads him to a hideout in the icy realm. He finds his home there, and discovers his worldly purpose with the help of a few crystals of learning.
Superman grows in his super powers from then on - he teaches himself how to fly, how to fight, how to bend steel, how to run like the wind, how to zone in on activities using psychic powers, and how to endure physical blows.
He then gets a job in the local newspaper, where he can keep a lead on any corruptive events on a daily basis. Then it's just a matter of waiting for the right call, in order to get him to march into action.
Superman fights off his enemy, the crime genius Lex Luther, time and time again. It becomes a skill after a while, but jail never holds the Lex Luther. He breaks out with the help of some associates, and then it is back to work in order to take down the world that is there waiting to be ruled.
Only occasionally does Superman meet a super gifted super-person, or normal-person to battle against - this

The only way that a Superman/Batman fight would make sense would be if Superman were to lose his powers and fight as a mortal.
