chance of turning out a good game as opposed to the early days of both franchises when they were cranking out duds (not counting Dragonball's early days of gaming now recapped in Dragonball Origins).
Two - Bring forth the cast of the movie for voice talent duties!
I don't know about you, but if I'm dropping coinage on a movie based game I expect to hear the people from the movie take the time to reprise their roles in the game. Some of my rather liked (not 5 out of 5 like but liked) games had the voice talents of the movie reprise their roles. Lord of the Rings : Two Towers and Return of the King. Batman Returns. Pirates of the Caribbean : Legend of Jack Sparrow (only Pirates game Johnny Depp lends his voice to). And so on.
There's something just special in knowing that the people who made the movie actually thought enough of the fanbase (or the extra money from doing voice acting duties in some cases) to come in and do the voices. Really. That's great of them. Makes me want to play it just a little more, even if I have to admit some of these games are still bombs (sure, Superman Returns the Game blew but at least most everyone from the movie took time to be in the game!) but having the people from the project be in the game? Priceless... unless we're talking Gordon Ramsay and Hell's Kitchen the game then, honestly, there's nothing priceless about him going on and on about how awful I am at his faux cooking puzzler game. Yeah.
Three - Retro is good. Really.
Note that of late the best movie to game translations are games based on movies that came out YEARS ago? The Warriors. The Godfather (now with it's own "Sequel"). Ghostbusters. Sure, some of these had games in the past I'm sure, but these fresh new slices of innovation on these beloved movie titles make the present poorly slapped together movie to game translations pale in comparision to these titles. Me? I'd love to see more of these come out, especially since I have my own list of classic movies I'd like to see fresh innovative game translations cranked out for. Old school like Conan the Barbarian, Krull, Escape from New York, Earthquake or Posidion Adventure (You remember that third party disaster game where you had to escape a rapidly sinking artifical island city? Yeah, apply that game's mechanics to either of these games and you'd have a good hit). Me? I'm personally holding out for the trend of old is new again translations to continue, because we have yet to see the full spectrums of movies past that would make excellent games in this day and age (if done right by the right people).
Four - Everybody wins.
You know you didn't waste your money and have a good game out of the bargain.
They know they didn't waste their money trying to con you... I mean sell you goods worthy of your money... and they have... well, they have your money out of the bargain (and future customers who'll come back and buy their stuff again and again).
Everybody wins... when the people making the game actually want to do more than trick you into giving up your money on junk.
