I made the choice to give you life
And you gave life back to me
More than I can ever express the gifts I have from you
Affirmation of my purpose and all that I could be
Motherhood became an adventure I longed to share with you
Opening your heart you gave me love and showed me that I could
Throw off the chains of memory and be what you needed of me
Hope renewed I have lived for you, with you and always will
Every memory we have forged is a beloved chain about my heart
Racing off into the world I fear for you my child
And yet I know that you must go and walk the paths before you
I'll wait for you and watch your steps
Willing you to succeed
Opening the door when you return with new adventures to share
Run my child and don't look back until your race is done
Reach for the stars and find your destiny
You needn't know that I am a mother and I worry

nauseous from dawn 'til noon
prone to unexpected tears
joyous laughter, hidden fears
