Don't get caught up in the media propaganda and allow the fears to rule over you. Job loss is just another name for opportunity if you look at it the right way. Develop the right attitude and show emotional resiliency in order to cope with the situation at hand. The key is in taking action and enjoying the benefits that will come as a result.
Below listed are outlined steps that can help you cope with job lay-offs.
1. Get rest from the emotional stress encountered as as result of lay-off
If you are laid off, you are probably faced with high amounts of emotional stress and may be prone to emotional eating. Keep your head up as you are not alone in this situation. In order to release emotional stress and fear related to your job loss, understand that your health is your biggest source of wealth and happiness. Once you come to terms with this, avoid emotional eating and start taking regular walks into the nature.
2. Start actively searching for a new job
Bear in mind that you are not going to die out of hunger if you don't immediately find a new job. Be persistent and work hard at it by getting out there and being on the source of new information and opportunities. Make it your goal to talk to twenty people in a day. Intensified activity will best help you improve your odds of finding a new job.
3. Start working from home
Do not let anxiety and panic to take over your life but take your destiny in your hands. Start a home business such as baking cookies or baby sitting service. Or you may decide to start an internet business even though it may mean working part-time or for smaller pay initially. Working from home has many benefits if you are a family oriented person. It will allow you to spend more time with your children if you have them. You will have more time to master efficient money management skills that will help you take better care of your money through saving and investment. As you will be working from home, you will avoid paying for gas expenses that can add up to a lot nowadays. Not to mention that you will save up on buying new clothes and hosiery required for the office work.
4. Turn your crisis into an opportunity
Start your own small private business in food industry that has high perspective nowadays in times of economic recession. If you are married and have children, you could start a babysitting service where you will be taking care of your own children and earning money by taking care of your neighbor's children at the same time. It is just a matter of weighing pros and cons, joint decision-making, and financial planning with your partner. Each one of us has good ideas and the only real difference between the success and failure is that one takes action upon a good idea and the other doesn't.
5. Start your own garden
Yes, the food costs a lot nowadays and is probably carrying most of our paycheck's worth away. If you manage to alleviate the fear of getting hungry down the road, then all your other fears can be easily alleviated. Start working in the garden in order to reduce the cost of your grocery bills. As an added bonus, you will enjoy free physical exercise, nice sun tan, fresh and healthy green products from your garden for free, and a slim figure if you work hard enough.
