There is no list. Diets fail because they are a temporary fix to life long unhealthy eating habits. Changing one's attitude about food and learning to like the taste of healthy foods and how to prepare them, will help maintain a healthy weight. Learning how to resist the temptation of unhealthy foods will keep the weight off. Wiring your jaw shut and never going to a supermarket or party again will help you with your temptation, but it's unrealistic. Dealing with temptation is psychology and most diets don't come with psychologists.
Diets work in the short run because you want them to work. You are focused and ready to lose those extra pounds. You have made a commitment. You buy exercise equipment or join a gym. You might hire a personal trainer. You start counting points and keeping track of the food you eat. You go to weekly meetings. You start eating only proteins or eating only carbohydrates. You might be enticed to take diet pills because the before and after pictures shown in the advertisement are proof that it must work. You want the quick fix. Quick fixes don't work. You have to live your life by exercising and eating only the amount of calories that is necessary for your particular body to function. You have to know what that amount is. It's hard to realize dessert is meant to be eaten maybe once a year as a treat.
Think of all the businesses that have been created because we overeat.
The reason the diet industry is a billion dollar industry is because as a society we have forgotten how to eat only what we need for nutritional purposes. Repeated failure is how they make their money. What does that mean? They are not held accountable if you gain the weight back and if you are on a "diet" you more than likely will. They are banking on it. Any time money is being made whether it is the diet industry or the pharmaceutical industry the bottom line is they have to make money. Gluttony and greed are feeding off of each other.
Some companies in the weight loss business promote themselves by saying that you can be a lifetime member. This means you can come back anytime you need to lose the weight again. You are there to lose the weight so why would you need to come back? Is there something they are leaving out of the weight loss cure? Is this the power of suggestion at play? It sounds like you are being subliminally set up to fail. If the companies were to be held accountable for your weight maintenance for the rest of your life and had to give you your money
