New York City has a million fun activities to do every time of the year. Whether you are looking for an action-packed adventure, a relaxing break, or an elegant trip, you are sure to find just what you are looking for in New York. Here is a guide highlighting some of the popular New York City attractions.
Explore Central Park
Central Park is one of the best urban parks in the country. Within the park there are endless ways to entertain yourself, as it contains the Central Park Zoo, boat rides, a carousel, beautiful lakes, sports fields, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and much, much more. You can go on a jog or a bike-ride on the beautiful 6-mile path through the park. Taking a horse carriage ride can also be a really fun experience. For your children, you should attend a puppet show at the Cottage Marionette Theatre. In the winter, lace up your skates and take a whirl around the Wollman Rink.
Take a Guided Tour
There are many different types of guided tours of New York City. Taking a bike tour is a great way to see the city, and get exercise and fresh air while you are at it. You can cover a lot of the city this way and not have to deal with traffic. There are also many possibilities for walking tours, where you can focus on a specific neighborhood in the city. Finally, taking a city cruise is another fun way to experience the city. This can give you great views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the Empire State Building.
Go to a Museum
There are several wonderful museums in New York. I have already mentioned the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which is fabulous, but you should also check out the American Museum of Natural History and the Children's Museum of the Arts. These are great day trips for families, as they offer hands-on activities, including art classes and a musical story time and the Museum of the Arts, and a nice dinosaur fossil collection and an Earth and Space planetarium at the Museum of Natural History. It will make for an educational and fun day.
Performance Art and Live Music
On your trip to New York City, you should make sure to see a Broadway play or musical at one of the world-renowned theaters. In addition, you should watch the famous Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall.
Go Shopping
New York is heaven for shoppers. With the upscale Madison Avenue, Fifth Avenue, and Times Square, there are endless stores to explore. Some must-sees are the famous Bloomingdale's, Macy's and Saks department stores. Your children will love exploring F.A.O Schwarz, the American Girl Place, and Nintendo World.
Enjoy New York City!
