Poetry: My painful past

by Krissi Lyn Mazon

Created on: April 17, 2009

My painful past has built a wall

around me brick by brick.

Anytime I heard friends call

my stomach would make me sick.

I stayed away, locked up inside

here in this prison I built.

Anytime they'd come by, I'd hide

and I'd sleep away the guilt.

All these years, I lived in here

hanging pictures on the wall.

No one ever could get near

so rarely would they even call.

My painful past has built a wall

around me brick by brick.

Anytime I heard friends call

my stomach would make me sick.

One day I took a chance

and I gather up some bricks.

I wanted a new romance

and was going to take the risk.

I layed each brick down

and built up the stairs

and slowly climb off the ground,

forgetting all of my cares.

I looked back behind

and waved my goodbyes

at that old wall of mine

and I didn't believe my eyes:

My painful past had built a wall

around me brick by brick.

I pushed it and made it fall;

that wall had never been too thick.
