It is not the case of whether or not celebrities are a natural, negative or positive effect on society, because the celebrity status is made and not earned in most cases, but rather the case of who the mass media glorifies. There are many more "celebrities" out there in the same fields, genres and mediums of art and so forth that are not glorified, so therefore their effects are not non-existent, however very minimal.

The glorification of artists into celebrity status is one that first starts by the media picking and choosing who would be in line to the current trends. This information is obtained after much market research. However, a much more relevant question would be, "Are the celebrities that the media glorifies having a negative or positive effect on society", and quite frankly I believe it is a straight negative.

Most of the mass media and its current taste in programming especially via the television is mostly garbage wrapped in foil. My theory is that it is to attract certain people to the shiny exterior, much like a thieving magpie. With all jokes aside, the mass media today glorifies such atrocious material that not only whose are ideals noticeably in-decent to any analyst, but the ideals are slowly imprinting themselves into the minds of the ignorant watcher.

Such things as sex and violence on television are subjects which quite obviously are open to much debate; there is a belief that commonly states that there is a time and place. However, when the portraying of in-decency becomes such that it gets used as an example of common society It becomes severely unbearable to view or even listen too. Such terms as "reality TV" are grossly incorrect as they only portray the reality of that particular area with set conditions and outcomes. Even a teenager would be able to deduce that reality TV is neither correct in terms, nor correct in portraying of such reality.

The current common celebrity image is one that not only has negative effects on the community, but also has negative effects on the celebrity themselves. By no means is this implying that all celebrities should only be solid examples of morality rather a well defined balance would solve the issue of negativity. The celebrity in a common perception would at some stage have many inspirations and aspirations of becoming a celebrity that would be glorified for their art or what not. The path to stardom cannot be achieved if you exclude yourself from the social circles that surround your profession. In time, the life style will become your own, and usually the person by then is part of it all. This may be a gross misconception, but by analysing the collective message, you will see that the life styles glorified also shouts negativity to any rational, logical and reasonable human being, and it is these that are being glorified. The kinds of negativity are subject for another discussion which would require much analysis.

Perhaps one day in the future there will be some sort of media reform so that the values of real art, education and information become the real things on demand. Perhaps then and only then will the message of positivity, rationalism, openness and education be able to become the new ideals of our children and their children. Perhaps then and only then Man Kind will move forward.
