WHO IS RAISING OUR CHILDREN
Our country's society has failed miserably when it comes to our children. Throughout history, in every society, the first modus operandi to control the populous was to take control of the children. If the children can be controlled, the future of the society can be coerced. How does this pertain to day care? Simply put, who is raising our children? True, day care if necessary should be a viable option to those that find themselves in need. Just because you want a bigger house, a better car, are these justifications for leaving our children with strangers?
For those parents, who must work to survive, single income and low-income families alike, we should help them as much as possible. On the other hand, if the need is not there, only the want, we should look in the mirror and ask ourselves, "what are we really gaining by becoming a two-income family?" Especially in Michigan City, low paying service jobs abound. In reality the income received is negated by the cost of day care, a second car or third cars, car insurance, new clothes, and the need to eat out more often.
A question yearns for an answer. Why do we continually make stay at home mothers feel inadequate? Our government has suggested a tax break for two income families, come now, what kind of message does that send to stay at home moms.
Are we to think the nurturing attention stay at home moms give their children has no worth? I would be the first to admit, a stay at home mom sacrifices many things, but sacrificing their self worth should not be one of them.
Whenever the government becomes involved, the more confused the problem becomes. The government immediately tries to throw money or tax breaks at the problem. Why not throw some money the way of the stay at home mom? Why not reinforce the family? The answer is so simple no one wants to admit it. We would have to put our children first. We would actually have to raise our own children.
Government involvement seemingly finds a solution for the problem, but never addresses the cause of the problem.
No one would want to go to a doctor if he only treated the symptom and failed to cure the disease.
Day care will not go away, and for good reason, it is a necessary evil. Good day care can relieve the anxiety a working mother faces every day she must leave her child and go to work. I, by no means, think a woman's place is at home, if she makes more money, maybe the husband could stay home with the children. We must not lose sight, for
