Many may find it hard to believe, but Cattlemen's steakhouse has been open since 1910. An Oklahoma City favorite for many years, Cattlemen's is undoubtedly the oldest operating restaurant in Oklahoma City. Located in Oklahoma City's area known as Stockyard City, the restaurant has not changed location since opening their doors. It has been referred to as "the restaurant that time forgot". It's easy to see this when you walk up the stainless steel and glass doors that are very much a retro-esque 1950s design. When venturing into the dimly lit establishment, you immediately feel comforted by the warm and homey southwestern design.
There is a family dining side with the original red leather booth seating and a stainless steel "diner-style" eating counter that still stands today. The other side is the fine dining side white table clothed tables. Either side you choose is definitely an escape into the past. The fine dining side is a treat for your eyes with lots of back lit wall murals showing the restaurant from earlier times, Oklahoma cattle wranglers and Stockyard City's early days from long past. It is truly a dash into the past!
There are many delicious "starter" choices from their well stocked menu from drinks to appetizers, even if you turn your head in disgust at the lamb fries there are many delectable treats. The Steak Soup and Shrimp Cocktails been favorite menu choices for years, but make sure you save plenty of room for your entree! Meals are served with a fresh dinner salad usually served with the house specialty, a creamy garlic-cheddar house dressing which is highly recommended, your choice of potato and a couple of colossal sized dinner rolls baked fresh every day in house.
The steak is what made Cattlemen's award winningly famous, but should decide not to partake in the heavenly beef; there are many other choices as well. There is Catfish cooked to perfection, several chicken choices and a nice array of burgers and sandwiches that range in price from $12.00 to $28.00.
Cattlemen's steak is well known for marinating the meat over night in the restaurants special method of steak preparation. In whatever way you prefer your steak to be cooked, the wait staff is very concerned about getting your beef served to you exactly as you desire it. Your waiter will invariably wait for you to cut into your serving to insure it is not under or overcooked. Medium well is the recommended temperature for serving but in whatever way you choose, they aim to please your taste buds completely! Cattlemen's steaks are always full of flavor and extremely tender enhancing the ease of the meat cut! No one visiting or living in the Oklahoma City area should miss the experience Cattlemen's has to offer!
