There are many different doctrines. There are many different denominations. True Christians must be able to see beyond all the hype. My definition of Christian faith is this- Christ. Christ dominates the word Christian. Therefore, Christ should dominate Christianity. I believe that each individual will be drawn to the denomination that best suites them. I consider myself non-denominational because I do not see the importance of denominations. I was raised in the Baptist church. Most southern people fall into Catholic or Baptist. In the Baptist church baptism is of major importance. Many people in the denomination are somewhat reserved.
I have visited a couple of Catholic churches. On my first visit I thought that Catholics are very hospitable. They have footrests on the pews. My mother later informed me that they were not footrests. These were attachments to the pews used for kneeling during prayer. Duhhh. I do not remember what the priest talked about. I was trying to figure out why we were reading from a book other than the Bible. I was trying to stay awake.
I have been a member of a pentecostal church. I disagreed with some of their doctrine. I personally believe in something called the Trinity. The trinity is a belief that God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are one entity. Pentecostals do not believe so. It's just different perception, I suppose. I did enjoy the freedom to dance during praise and worship. I also enjoyed the straight-forward messages. No candy coating.
I have been a member of a full gospel church. Recently, I attended a Church of God in Christ. These two denominations are somewhat similar to pentecostal. I personally like to be around warm and receptive people. I believe that all Christians should be warm and receptive. I do not believe that people should pass judgement on other people. I know that there are many denominations that would not welcome my kind. I have a couple of tattoos. I have a child out of wedlock. I also speak ebonics occasionally. There are some denominations that prefer the cream of the crop. They seek the elite. Jesus came to save the worst of the worst.
Ultimately, it all goes back to Jesus Christ. A true Christian believe in his life, death, and resurrection. A Christian believes that there is a physical life, death, and resurrection. During the Christian walk, we must change how we live. We must die to our human nature, and live in a spiritual nature. Christian faith is believing in Christ, loving him, and desiring to be like him.
