4. Pay Attention
Watch for areas with speed limit signs that drop 20 MPH or more in one quick change of speed. These can be found, among other places, as you drive into smaller towns off of a larger two lane 55 MPH road. The small town Cops are out for revenue and are likely more strict on speed than the typical city Cop. Also be careful when exiting the freeway onto service (frontage) roads where the limits drop to 40 to 45 MPH. This is another favorite place for the revenuers to catch you coming off of highway speeds.
5. Appearance and Perception
Pay attention to the traffic in front of you as brake lights for seemingly no reason means they may have spotted a revenuer ahead sitting in wait. Also be mindful of the traffic beside you as you don't want to appear to be blowing past other cars in case you are seen by a Cop simply driving down the road. Never punch the accelerator on a yellow light. If you are going at a speed that does not allow a safe stop just continue your pace of speed through light. Cops are more likely to forgive a steady roll through a light vs. a revving engine to try to beat the light. As to the passengers in your car, advise them to never point at a Cop while you are driving, even if it's a well intended warning. If a Cop sees this, you'll likely be pulled over for suspicion.
These are common sense methods of avoiding an unexpected donation to the municipality. The best way of course is not to speed but that doesn't help the article much does it? In our town, the Cop's had a bright idea to radar off a bridge extending across the highway. Once a car was tagged as speeding, they would radio down to a waiting car on the highway and nab their suspect. That actually turned out to be so sneaky that it was deemed unconstitutional and the practice was stopped, in our town anyway. There have also been stories of motorcycle Cops peeking around signs while trying to catch a speeder. These sneaky techniques are in play in some areas of the country and there is not much you can do but to stay alert in these cases.
