Spa salons offer relaxation

by Amber Hilton

After a long work week or too much time spent chasing the kids around, nothing is more relaxing and rejuvenating than a trip to a spa salon. Every spa salon is different, with service variations from one spa to the next and according to season or region.

However, there are some basic stress-relieving services that are offered at nearly every spa salon location. The most popular day spa packages almost always include some combination of massage and facial services. Both services are luxurious and results-driven, leaving the guest feeling very pampered and rejuvenated.

Massage is a popular service because it is not only relaxing, but it offers other health benefits as well, such as pain relief and stress reduction. Spas offer a wide range of massage techniques, often customizing the service to the individual's needs. A good massage therapist consults with the guest on the preferred pressure and technique. Pressure can range from a light, relaxing touch to a deeper massage that really works out knots, but may cause some future soreness. Popular techniques include deep-tissue, trigger point, chakra, sport and pregnancy massage.

Reflexology is another massage service offered by some spa salons, which is generally performed only on the feet, but offers stress-relieving benefits for the entire body. Finally, those guests who are looking for the ultimate rejuvenating experience might try a hot stone massage, which incorporates hot stones as massage tools for a deeply relaxing and thoroughly luxurious treatment.

The facial is the second most popular spa service and is offered in many forms from one salon to the next. The most effective facials are those that are customized to the guest's individual skin care needs and can focus on anything from relaxation to deep pore cleansing. Some spa salons even offer facials designed specifically for those with aging skin.

Facials typically include a cleanse and steam followed by a series of masks, scrubs and serums. Estheticians are well-trained in techniques that not only renew and rejuvenate the skin, but create a relaxing experience for guests as well. Depending on the spa, some light massage on the neck, shoulders, hands and feet may also be performed with a facial service.

A successful spa salon owner realizes that the experience they create includes much more than just the service provided and therefore strives to create an atmosphere that aids in relaxation from the moment that the guest walks through the door. Spa salons typically have a separate lounge area for guests to unwind while they prepare for their services and often offer refreshments such as tea and fresh fruit. Guests should be offered fresh robes and sandals, relaxing dressing areas and shower or Jacuzzi facilities for before and after services. Relaxing music, aromatherapy oils and the soothing voices of the service providers will all aid in relaxation and leave the guest feeling refreshed and renewed.
