The Draft is the most important day in football that is not an actual game. There are teams that historically do well in the draft and there are teams that do quite the opposite. This April will prove no different. Here's a look at how my board works out.
With the number one pick in the draft the Oakland Raiders will take Adrian Peterson from Oklahoma. Despite injuries Peterson constantly impresses scouts with amazing speed, bursts of power and great field vision.
With a really dissapointing year from running back Lamont Jordan Oakland needs to establish a running game again and this is the player to do it.
The second pick in the draft the Detroit Lions will take Offensive Tackle Joe Thomas from Wisconsin. 2006 wasn't the greatest year for the Lions but it did show some sort of promise. I know a lot of people are asking for a QB in motor city but Kitna is a capable back if he has time. He also has some great weapons to utilize and if the line improves, the defense will collectively get better.
The third pick belongs to the Cleveland Browns and they will use it to pick up Brady Quinn from Notre Dame. Charlie Frye has not become the quarterback that most thought he would and the Browns are in desperate need of leadership. Quinn has also been public about the fact that he would love to play for the Browns.
With the fourth overall pick in the draft the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will take QB JaMarcus Russell from LSU. Russell is a large and mobile QB with a rocket for an arm and will fit in nicely in Tampa Bay
Arizona Cardinals will take defensive end Alan Branch from Michigan to attempt to help out one of the NFL's worst defenses. Branch is a quick off the line type of lineman who will create plays for the Cardinals.
The sixth overall pick will go to Washington Redskins and they will use it for Leon Hall, the shut down Corner back from Michigan. Hall plays like a young Champ Bailey and has high expectations in the NFL. The Redskins desperately need help on the worst defense in the NFL.
With the seventh overall pick in the draft look for Minnesota to get the steal of the century and take Calvin Johnson, the stud receiver out of Georgia Tech. Johnson plays like Randy Moss without the drugs. He is fast, tall, and a great route runner. This will help Minnesota take some of the pressure off of Chester Taylor.
Eighth pick goes to the Houston Texans who will make up for last years pass on Reggie Bush by taking stud running back Marshawn Lynch out of Cal.
