No I do not think abortion should be a choice because it implies a way of escape when it isn't. I do not think abortion should be a choice where a person can choose to exterminate life. And perhaps then be able to choose to exterminate life again.
Why does the option for abortion exist when there are many options to choose before it reaches exterminating life? Today in the modern world we have many contraceptive options to prevent fermentation. We have the ECP if an unwanted course of action happens. So why do we have abortion?
I was trying to think of a scenario where a woman should need abortion and I could not think of one because what good reason is there for abortion?
I researched about abortion options and testimonies. Many of the testimonies I read were about regrets. The one I remember most is a testimony from a nineteen year old girl who survived her mother's decision to abort her. She called it a "botched abortion" where the abortionist had not finish the job before she was born. She was diagnosed with cerebral palsy as a result of the abortion.
I think planning to have safe sex is a serious matter yet I read so many accounts where people do not use contraceptives but expect to be magically invincible from becoming pregnant, not to mention from receiving an STI. I think providing the option for abortion seems to belittle the seriousness of planning for safe sex.
So again I ask why do we even think about abortion when we are able to use contraceptives such as 97% effective latex condoms, birth control pills, 88% effective ECP, diaphragms and caps? (For more information see http://www.youngwomenshealth.org/contra_types.html.
W hen a woman is intellectually competent to plan and make decisions to have safe sex then she will be 99.9% abortion-free.
I have another point to discuss. In secondary school also known as high school I was given the choice to attend Sex Education classes. The classes provided a thorough information course on how to prepare for safe sex. Even free condoms were given to us.
Not only has the school actively provided guidance on preventing needs for abortion but also society's medical clinics and family centers have their doors wide open. Abortion should not be an option because it should never reach that stage of choosing to cut off life. We should be responsible enough to be able to plan using choices of birth control and emergency contraceptives that are provided so we never need abortion. If a woman can not do that then she certainly should not think about having sex.
