Short Story: The Journey of Benji Bear
Benji Bear was a wee little bear who lived inside a matchbox that set upon the nightstand of his best friend, Benny Bear. Benji and Benny did everything together. They ate together, worked together, and even played together. Everytime Benji would get into trouble Benny would come to the rescue, which would happen many times for Benji was a very mischievious bear.
One morning, Benji awoke from his night's sleep feeling very restless. He had never been on a long trip and so he wanted to take a long trip to the other side of the forest. This may not seem very far to you and me, but to Benji, who was just a tiny bear, this was a long, long, journey.
Benji told Benny, "I would like to go on a journey to the other side of the forest all by myself."
"I don't think it would be safe for you to travel on your own," replied Benny.
"Don't worry, Benny," said Benji, "I will be fine, I can take care of myself."
Benny did not believe Benji would be safe so he decided he would let Benji take his trip, but he would follow Benji in case something might happen to him.
The next day Benji said good-bye to his forest friends and to Benny then began the long journey on his own. But, unknown to Benji, just a few steps behind him was Benny. He hid among the bushes and the trees keeping his eye on his little friend. Benji was so happy to be able to see all the wonderous things in the forest. He felt like a full-grown bear while he was walking through the forest of tall trees and plants.
As Benji was passing a large oak tree, he heard the voice of a bluebird coming from above. The bluebird said, "Hello. my name is Chip."
"Hello, my name is Benji Bear." said Benji.
Chip the Bluebird began to laugh and asked Benji, "Are you really a bear? Because I have never seen such a small bear in all my life."
Benji smiled and told Chip, "I like being small and unique. I am the only bear in the whole forest who can play with the caterpillars and take a nap upon the soft petals of a beautiful flower."
Chip stopped laughing a began to think about all of the fun things Benji could do that he was not able to do. "I'm sorry for making fun of you." said Chip, "Can we still be friends?"
Benji replied," I'm always happy to make a new friend. We never can have too many friends."
"I'm glad." said Chip, " If you ever need anything all you need to do is just whistle and I will be there to help you."
"Thank you and goodbye," said Benji.
Benji then began his journey once again.
