American employers should definitely hire people with any type of disability if they are able to perform the required job functions. Why would America want to promote illegal immigration by basically rewarding it? When a company hires illegal immigrants, it really shows the integrity of a company. For example, in the city where I reside, several ethnic restaurants have been raided over the past few years due to employment of illegal immigrants. If the restaurant owner authorizes hiring such people based on the fact that they do not have to pay them as much money, or can pay them cash and not declaring it on their taxes, they are committing fraudulent acts. Not only that, but what is the quality of the product at said restaurants? Are they skimping in other areas too, like food safety or employee hygiene? Personally, I would prefer to eat somewhere that all employees have mandatory background checks. This helps to ensure the quality of employee that gets hired and therefore, ensuring the integrity in the company.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /

One in five Americans suffers from some sort of disability. There is a bad apple in every bunch, as they say, and some disabled people are not truly disabled; some people are just lazy and find an unethical or naive doctor whom they coerce into signing off on disability documents. However, most people who say they are disabled are; that does not make them any less of a person. I am afraid some people may be confused with the definition of a severe disability. Let's look at what www.census.gov states as the definition:
1. A person suffering from Alzheimer's disease, mental retardation, or another developmental disability.
2. Someone who uses a wheelchair, walker, cane, or crutches.
3. A person with a mental or emotional condition that seriously interferes with everyday activities.
The site goes on to say that if a person is unable to or needs assistance in performing certain tasks, that person is also considered severely disabled. Such tasks include:
1. Performing one or more functional activities (seeing, hearing, speaking, lifting/carrying, using stairs, walking, or grasping small objects).
2. Activities of daily living (getting around inside the home, getting in or out of bed or a chair, bathing, dressing, eating, and toileting).
3. Instrumental activities of daily living (going outside the home, keeping track of money and bills, preparing meals, doing light housework, taking prescription
