I was 11 when the 80's started and 21 when they ended. Most of the music I listened to then didn't even come out in the 80's(I discovered classic rock in 1982), but eventually I started listening to many of the bands that not only came out back in the 80's but are still around now. They still record and tour, and they are -
John Cougar, John Cougar Mellencamp, and JOhn Mellencamp - He is one person, I know. Being the first concert for me, makes John that much more special to me. I adored "American Fool" then and still do now. He made it through the decade unscathed and has had a very successful career as a singer/songwriter. He is an amazing live performer as well. Definitely, one of the greatest singers from the 80's.
U2 - My sister had been a big fan and i used to borrow her records. From "The Unforgettable fire" to "Achtung Baby", I got to see them a half dozen times. One of the best bands to see live, and one of the greatest from the 80's
Van Halen - Originally from the late 70's, but truly came into their own in the 80's with the album "1984". I like all their music up until Sammy Hagar started singing for them. I'm for Van Halan with David Lee Roth. They were a great band.
Huey Lewis and the News - It's hip to be a Huey fan. "The heart of rock and roll", "I wanna a new drug", "IF this is it" set a great trend for a great singer and band that came out of the 80's. While they aren't living in the limelight now, it was another band I got the chance to see back in my glory days and they were fun - a definitive and great band of their time
Aerosmith - I now they didn't start up in the 80's, but it was the 80's when I started listening to their LPs. The band seemed to become much more popular as the 80's progressed and their New Year's Eve shows in Boston totally rocked! A great great band that has had a great power over time.
