Every relationship has obstacles that stand in the way of moving forward. The key to getting past those obstacles is communication. If you are unable to have good communication with those you are involved with, the relationship will falter and eventually die because of it.
Here are some of the reasons that communication is the key to overcoming those obstacles:
Getting Out Anger
It is much better to communicate your issues with your partner when you are angry. This doesn't mean to start an argument. It means to state what you are feeling and why you feel that way. Talking things out keeps you from becoming angry from letting it build up. Human nature dictates that we explode when we bottle up those angry feelings. It is much better to say what is on your mind before it becomes a bigger issue.
Understanding Each Other
You will understand each other better if you communicate. Sitting silently while watching television doesn't count. Communication about issues you have will allow your partner to understand your point of view better. This leads to the compromise that you sometimes have to make when faced with issues that each of you feels very strongly about.
No One Really Mind Reads
How is your partner supposed to know what you are thinking if you don't tell him/her? He/she can't because mind readers really don't exist. This is especially true in relationships between men and women. If you want to find a solution to your problem, the best way is to communicate with your partner.
Moving Forward
You cannot move forward from something unless you find a solution. You can't find a solution unless you have good communication between you and your partner. In order to truly move forward, you must communicate your issues. Just letting it drop won't be an answer to your problems. You must get to the root of the problem before you can fix it. Talking it out with your partner is the only way to reach your goal.
Communication is definitely the key to overcoming obstacles. You must be willing to face the problem head on. If you pull it from the roots, chances are slim that it will return. Finding out what caused the problem is the first step. Once you have accomplished that, you will be able to figure out why it is a problem. Talking about it further will allow you to come to a solution. That results in a happier and healthier life.
Keeping the lines of communication open are important throughout any relationship. Keeping things bottled up often means that the relationship will eventually end. Everyone feels better when a solution is found. Just remember, once the solution is found, you must let it go. Sometimes you can beat a dead horse and that gets you nowhere.
