The United States Government is one that is very unique. It is so unique that just about every new country ie. Iraq has tried to copy our way how a government is supposed to be run. One of the unique characteristics that are political system has is the formulation of parties and party affiliation. The Democratic and Republican parties go back since the founding days of the nation. Then came the third parties which ran on platforms of drug legalization to all out anarchy. A controversial topic in this day and time is the subject of the should the federal government help fund election campaigns. I believe this should get a resounding, NO!

The American political party machines are people who delve into alot of money. All of the major political parties are given large contributions to help in the defense of their respective cause. In this day and time, the commercial sector has given so much money that they are even sponsors of White House events. My point is that there is no reason for the government to give money to help political campaigns for the simple fact that the political parties already have enough financial backing that there is no need to give them any money.

An excellent idea of how much money can be raised without any kind of government help is President Obama's online site where voters could donate money and also volunteer as phone callers to help with his campaign. What an excellent idea. Get online volunteers plus get donations. No extreme overhead. Obama went on to set records for campaign fund raising, way out raising his Republican counterpart, Sen. John McCain. As far as grass roots level and local politics, every municipality has some kind of tie to the National headquarters of the respective party so raising money should not be that difficult. I am for as little federal government intrusion as possible.

In this day and time, it certainly would not make any sense for the US government to help in funding election campaigns. The thing is that there is enough money in the coifers of the major political parties that there would be no reason for the government to partake in something like that. Even though there is a Democratic president in the White House does not mean that the Democratic party has a stronghold on politics everywhere nor does it mean that they are entitled to more government money. It simply means that the Democratic philosophy is what the country wants.

The United States Government should not help fund election campaigns, whether it is national or local. The uniqueness of our political party system allows us to vote a certain way and not be ostracised for it. It allows for a person to not to be tied to voting how someone else does but how they feel and want to vote. Less government means less regulation and less control. In this day and time, we need to invest money in better things, not in an election campaign.
