What do health insurers believe campaign contributions will net them in Congress' health care reform debate?

What is the one thing that scares health insurers more than the black plague of doom? It could be when the American people finally get tired of super high premiums, 17 % co-insurance and $30.00 co-pays just to spend five minutes with some doctor who says, "not sure, come back if it gets worse." Health care reform is the perfect platform for the major health insurers to play "Mr. Nice Guy" and get in good with the law makers.

Campaign contributions to congressional officals will ensure that the health insurers recieve there share of federal subsidies. Since biting the hand that feeds you is a very bad idea, I'm sure that the health insurers have nothing to worry about.

Looking at the past will prove that the health care industry does not care if people can afford health care or not, they are focused on profits. While it's expected for the health insurers to seek profits with no regard to the people, how about our elected officials. Looking back at the 1993 Clinton health care plan headed by Hillary Clinton, we can clearly see that when the President lobbied congress to seek affordable regulated health care to all workers in America there was major opposition. Major opponents included the Health Insurance Association, doctors and drug companies.

When President Clinton was campaigning congress to support and pass the health insurance reform bill of 1993 he stated, "Millions of Americans are just a pink slip away from losing their health insurance, and one serious illness away from losing all their savings. Millions more are locked into the jobs they have now just because they or someone in their family has once been sick and they have what is called the preexisting condition. And on any given day, over 37 million Americans - most of them working people and their little children - have no health insurance at all. And in spite of all this, our medical bills are growing at over twice the rate of inflation, and the United States spends over a third more of its income on health care than any other nation on Earth."

Fast forward to the Hilliary Clinton re-election for the senate, millions of campaign contributions came from the same health care insurers that outwardly opposed her in 1993 including campaign funds from the Health Care Insurers Association. Take notice that during her recent campigns she has not brought back her passion to reform health care.

What can health insurers expect from campaign contributions during Congressional health reform? No reform at all!
