Think you're the next Hannah Montana or Jonas Brother? If only you could get an audition! How do you go about auditioning for the mouse house?
Auditioning for Disney entails the same process as auditioning for any other network. The easiest way to get auditions for these types of jobs is if you already have an agent. If you know that Disney is where you want to be, tailor your agency search to agencies that already have clients working on those shows.
If you don't have an agent you don't have to wait in order to submit to Disney shows. Begin by finding out what casting directors are currently working on Disney shows. You can find out this information by visiting the Casting Society of America's website (www.castingsociety.com). Send your materials (headshot, resume and a brief cover letter) to the casting director working on the specific show. Make sure you mark the name of the Disney show that you are interested in auditioning for on the outside of the envelope.
Now this approach doesn't guarantee results. Most of the time, your materials will get dumped in the trash. However, if you feel that the small chance of being seen is worth it, then go for it! You may be that small percentage that gets an audition this way.
Getting an audition for Disney is going to be easier if you live in a major market. The majority of Disney channel shows are filmed in Burbank, CA. Some are also filmed in Vancouver, BC and Toronto, ON. However, Disney films are sometimes shot in other locations. For example, High School Musical filmed in Salt Lake City, UT. If you don't live in a major market, and the Disney job that you are interested in isn't near you, don't submit for an audition unless you will definitely be able to attend the audition on your expense. If you are under 18, you must also get your parents' permission, they may have to attend the audition with you.
When looking for ways to audition for Disney, please be aware of scams! There are many people that will promise to get you auditions for Disney, but they are simply there to take your money. Auditions for Disney are so sought after; they will not be advertised on the radio, television or anywhere else other than casting sites. Also, never pay money to anyone promising to get you an audition.
In the meantime, be prepared for when you do get a chance to audition for Disney! Know what shows and films Disney produces. If you can act, sing and dance, great! Keep honing your skills. Find Disney scripts online and practice auditioning with them. The more you know about Disney shows, the better prepared you'll be!
