Poetry: Lords & ladies

by Royce Radcliffe

Created on: April 14, 2009

Lords and ladies, oh my!

How those ranked below wish they could be ranked so high

But perhaps all a facade

And instead of labels we should look at what lies behind.

Men and women simple as that

same as the rest of us

elevated to noble rank through nothing but empty status

hardly the best of us.

Though many fall for these labels do not give in

judge man and woman by actions more than rank

You know what is true if you listen to the voice within

and when you do it should hardly be me you thank.

In fact often this rank itself bestows not grace but the ugliest of human traits, conceit

conferred with a feeling of superiority that in rank finds its relief

On the inside they might be monsters though on the outside they appear quite lovely

Not that this must be the case, just that never ion value of face should we trust

They are just like the rest of us.

Well, with a bit more money.
