Pack the cooler in the trunk
With towels and folding chairs.
Buckle children into place
Clutching teddy bears.
Back carefully down the driveway
Wondering, "What did I forget?"
A voice at the first stoplight asks,
"Did we get there yet?"
Once arrived, you stake your claim
To a tiny scrap of land
While little ones start building
Castles in the sand.
All go splashing in the waves;
Round up any who have strayed,
Then eat sandwiches for lunch
And drink lemonade.
Lay down for a little nap
While watching seagulls glide,
Then search for pretty seashells
Washed up by the tide.
Stack wood for the bonfire
As the sun creeps slowly west;
See God's finger paint the sky;
Feel you're truly blest.
Gather all the children round;
Hand out weenies they can roast,
And puffy white marshmallows
On a stick to toast.
When you're finally headed home,
Starlight smiling on your way,
Know you'll treasure for years to come
Memories made today.
